Music has always been a big part of my life. As a child, much of my play involved sitting in front of my mother's old cabinet stereo, listening to records, and pretending I was performing the songs as they played. Many times, riding with my dad somewhere in the car and a song he really liked would come on the radio. He'd get my attention and say something like, "Listen to this. Listen to those words. Listen to the story he or she is telling." So, I learned from an early age, to not just appreciate the singing and playing talent, but to really dig in and savor the craftsmanship of a well-written song. Somewhere along the way, I started writing songs.
For me, listening to, writing, and playing music are as much a spiritual practice as journaling, praying, or reading the Bible and other meaningful books. Connecting with God through music comes as natural to some of us as breathing. And somehow, good music and well-written songs invite us to experience the reality of our emotions, honestly and without exaggeration. Here are a few links to words I've written and demos I've recorded that might connect with where you are emotionally or spiritually. I invite you to listen to the words, the stories, and see where they might connect with your life. |
